House Mansaura is located in the village Vandans close to the skiing infrastructure. The ski bus 82b to the Golm lift station (1 km away) stops right at the house. Other skiing regions can be reached by taking the local train to Schruns as well as by connecting buses from Vandans railway station. The Valley of Montafon, stretching 39 kilometres from the North to the South between Tyrol and the border of Switzerland, is a home to 11 towns and several ski areas (Golm, Kristberg, Gargallen, Silvretta Bielerhöhe and the large Silvretta Montafon which connects several skiing areas that were previously available only separately).
One of the advantages of doing winter sports in our valley is the single ski pass. Having bought the ski pass for at least 3 days the gests gain access to all five skiing areas of Montafon as well as Brandnertal, a region outside Montafon valley, on the very border with Switzerland. However, if you prefer to ski in any particular area, you will have the option to buy a separate ski pass at a lower price. The total length of pistes in the Montafon Valley area is about 210 km (30 km black, 67 km red and 113 km of blue pistes). As the region develops, the total length of pistes is constantly increasing. The overall length of cross-country ski trails is 100 km!
The closest ski area to the apartment house Mansaura is the Golm ski resort featuring skiing tracks with a total length of 22 km, equipped with 3 gondola lifts, 3 anchor lifts and a number of modern chair lifts and anchors. Starting the descent from the highest point of the Golm area – Golmer Joch (2124 m), overlooking the peaks Schesaplana (2965 m) and Zimba (2643 m), the highest Alpine peaks in the area, you can take the red track followed by a ski route 24 to ski down straight to the house Mansaura.
The Golm resort will appeal to families with varied skiing skills among its members: most of the local tracks are intermediate (red) and easy (blue). At the lower lift station, there is a cosy restaurant, a lift to the alpine coaster track (running down from Latschau, the first station up), winter toboggan runs (from Grabs and Lindauer Hütte) as well as a toboggan run down from Latschau accessible with the ski lift. There is and the Golm ski school www.schneesport-golm.at for skiers of all ages starting from 3 years. The necessary equipment (skis, sleds, ski shoes) can be rented at the Golmer Banh base station entrance. Restaurants are be found at the middle station Machwitch and the upper station Grüneck which offers also the children minding service.
Within easy reach of the house Mansaura, there are other skiing areas of the Montafon Valley. Hochjoch Bahn in Schruns is 4 km away. At the village of Sankt Gallenkirch, the Valisera Bahn station with its cable car lifts connects the two opposite mountain ranges embracing the both sides of the valley in a vast network of the area Silvretta Montafon pistes.
Thrill-seekers will enjoy the guided night skiing tours, while hardened individualists will grasp the opportunity to purchase the right of the first morning descent down a completely ‘fresh’ trail. It is possible also to order the ‘mountain breakfast’ at some of the larger upper platform restaurants.
For more information on the organized skiing tours and winter mountain tourism please see: www.montafon.at .
A little above Grasjoch in Silveretta-Montafon region you will find one of the largest snowboard arenas or Freestyle snow parks in Europe.
In some parts of Montafon free riding is allowed. Free riding safety instructions are organized every Monday.
Montafon offers 3 sledding runs of 3 to 5 km long, of varying steepness: Kappele-Kropfen run in Hochjoch, Gafresha-Valisera run near St. Gallenkirch and Golm sledding run from Latschau station to Golm ground station. Taking a cable lift up, it is possible to enjoy sledding the whole day long. Alpine sleds can be purchased in local sports’ stores or leased at inventory leasing centres. For sledding, you would need a pair of strong winter function boots.
There are a number of cross-country skiing routes in Montafon, situated at different altitudes. One of the longest is found in Kristberg skiing area at the altitude of 1500 m. It is about 10 km long. The highest cross country skiing tracks are found in Silveretta Bielerhöhe, at Silvetetta lake at the altitude of more than 2000 m. They are 1.5 and 3.8 km long. In clear weather, there is a panorama view on the peak of Piz Buin and the adjacent peaks.
Snow shoes are handy when one wants to access hiking trails covered with snow. Over winter, in Montafon, there is a number of hiking trails always kept in good using order by the heavy duty snow grooming machines. Stepping in ski shoes however, can considerably enlarge the number of the accessible tracking routes. The Bartholomäberg mountain, exactly opposite to our house, and the mountain range behind it is especially inviting, as there you can find a variety of different difficulty hiking routes and enjoy stunning views over three valleys: Montafon, Silbertal and Klostertal.
Skiing would not be complete without the opportunity to “warm up” the bones in the evening and relax the aching muscles in a water park. In Vorarlberg, these services are offered by the sauna and swimming pool centre Alpen-Erlebnisbad VAL BLU, located in Bludenz, which is about 8 km from the house Mansaura.
This is an extensive water park with an area of 1880 square metres, of which the total area of swimming pools is 790 square metres and the total area of saunas and steam baths is 490 square metres. For more information please read: www.valblu.at.
If at the end of your winter vacation the Montafon Valley starts to seem too familiar and you would gladly spend an exciting day on unexplored trails or just check what happens in other valleys, this desire can be easily fulfilled. Only 45 minutes drive from the house Mansaura there are three “Eldorados” of winter sports: Lech, Zürs and Sankt Anton am Arlberg, which each season gather together the world’s most famous and richest skiers.
The ski resorts of Ischgl and Galtür can be reached in just an hour and 10 minutes. And all of this can be seen while staying in the Montafon Valley at the prices of the Montafon Valley!
